The Center for Research and Development in the Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network is a leading factor, researcher, planner, developer and designer of technological educational innovation and creative educational responses to the teaching and learning challenges of the present and tomorrow of educational times.
The R&D Center was established in 1994 in the spirit of the Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network to realize quality and innovative education for all levels of the population and the various sectors, to realize the abilities of the students and for their socio-economic advancement. For the development of innovative and up- to- date pedagogy and for the design of the most advanced learning and teaching environments in the world, which are implemented in the education system in Israel and in the international education arena.
The center is attentive to the needs of the schools of the network in particular and of the Israeli education system in general and works in cooperation with and for them in order to raise the quality of teaching and pedagogical work in them. Its activities are focused on the development of innovative models, up-to-date content and advanced teaching and learning methods in the fields of science-technology education in order to bring innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship to education in general and to Israel Sci-Tech Schools in particular.
There are two units in R&D: a content development and pedagogy unit and a web technology unit that specializes in the development of pedagogical-didactic methods alongside innovative platforms adapted for teaching and learning in the 21st century, including ICT and Internet systems. And tailored to various challenges and needs, from pedagogical content development and technologies, production and design, through infrastructure management, maintenance, application of advanced tools and platforms to exporting educational knowledge and managing complex projects.
R&D is one of the prominent partners in shaping the vision of the 2020 school and in developing the network’s flagship program in the field of science and technology studies: iSTEAM – innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Since 2009, the Center for Research and Development has been a regular participant in the European Commission’s research projects on science and technology in post-primary education involving the largest and most important academic and media bodies on the continent. Among the programs and models developed at the center: the Aviv virtual campus, neuroscience, nanotechnology, the heart of the matter – biomedicine, time management, financial education, applied philosophy, precise technology and environment, Makers, digital citizenship and more.
