Israel's President and Van Leer Prize Winners Shine Bright at Israel Sci-Tech - Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools

We’re proud to celebrate two outstanding students for their achievements in the humanities and sciences!

  • Yonatan Shturman, from ISTS Sh’hackim in Nahariya, was honored at the President’s Residence and awarded the prestigious Van Leer Prize for his exceptional work in the humanities.
  • Lidor Gavrilov, from the ISTS High School for Science and the Arts at Yitzratzki Ramla, also received the Van Leer Prize for his fascinating final project exploring biomimicry in translation.

The Van Leer Prize is awarded by the Van Leer Foundation, dedicated since the 1950s to nurturing open, inclusive, and pluralistic society — especially through the humanities and social sciences. It typically recognizes outstanding young talent — students whose creative and critical work in areas like literature, translation, film, education, or philosophy demonstrates depth, originality, and societal relevance.

Mazel tov to both students — and to the dedicated educators who guided them! We couldn’t be prouder!
