As we launched the school year in Israel, MK Hili Tropper, former Minister of Israel’s Culture and Sports Ministry, and longtime advocate for education and social issues — shared this powerful story about his close friend, Major Raz Frohlich, CEO of Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network:
“Raz and I have been friends like brothers for more than 25 years, since our military service in the same unit.
On October 7, Raz led a special forces team in combat inside Kibbutz Be’eri. They rescued many until, during one encounter, Raz and his radio operator were struck. Raz was critically wounded, and the medic, Staff Sergeant Ofek Russo z”l, heroically ran to save him — sacrificing his own life in the process. Even under fire, Raz was evacuated with extraordinary courage and survived. He then began a long rehabilitation process. From his rehabilitation ward, Raz submitted his candidacy to lead Israel Sci-Tech Schools, the largest school network in Israel. I still recall sitting together in the ward, preparing him between sessions of physiotherapy and occupational therapy for the selection committee.
Raz was chosen. No one could be more deserving.
On September 1, Major Raz Frohlich — who, despite his injury, has returned to reserve duty — will open the school year as CEO of Israel Sci-Tech Schools. He is precisely the role model Israel’s students need: a living example of humility, responsibility, and personal commitment to the values we hope to instill in the next generation.
We wish Raz, and all students and educators, a successful school year.”
