From Language Barrier to Lifesaver: Druze Teen Elisar Bibar Rises to the Top - Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools

Elisar BiberAt just 18, Elisar Bibar, a high school senior in a gifted class at ISTS Shlomi, has carved out an extraordinary path, one that began with a significant obstacle. Bibar, a Druze from the Village of Yanuh-Jat, entered Israel’s education system without knowing any Hebrew. She was the only one from her village to attend a Hebrew speaking high school. And she faced an uphill climb from day one. Yet within a few short years, she not only mastered the language but earned a place in a prestigious gifted program, distinguishing herself academically in a highly competitive environment. She is now balancing cardiology studies through a Harvard University program, violin performance, and spearheading collaborative projects with the Technion, all while navigating the challenges of life under fire in Northern Israel.

Bibar’s achievements extend far beyond the classroom. She has become deeply involved in volunteer emergency response work, dedicating her time to helping others in high-pressure, real-world situations. Alongside this, she leads initiatives aimed at encouraging interest in medical fields among young people, an effort that reflects both her ambition and her desire to give back to her community.

Her journey hasn’t been smooth. Bibar has navigated cultural expectations, an intense academic workload, and moments of self-doubt. Still, with strong family support and a relentless work ethic, she has continued to push forward, turning challenges into fuel rather than excuses.
